Steer Clear of Unemployment Fraud this Tax Season

With large increases in unemployment benefits requests due to COVID-19, unemployment fraud cases are rampant across the country. As a result, states are paying out millions of dollars for fraudulent claims. Now that it is tax season, taxpayers are receiving notices that they owe thousands in taxes for unemployment benefits they never applied for.

Unfortunately, there are not many preventative measures to take, but you can consider 1) freezing your credit or 2) signing up for a credit monitoring service.

Check out this Unemployment Fraud article for more helpful guidance or submit a case via an Ask an HR Compliance Question and select “Unemployment.”
