At Vail Resorts, our core values guide and ground us and our work. Last winter, more than 1,000 team members were recognized for putting service-based leadership into action. Twenty-five team members were recognized as Epic Service winners for their emotional intelligence, inclusivity and operational excellence. Now, we’re excited to tell their stories throughout the winter season.
Meet Melanie – she has worked at Jack Frost Big Boulder for nearly 20 years and in that time has become a leader and icon at both resorts. Melanie started her career in retail and worked her way up to Assistant Manager of Food and Beverage where she is always leading with a smile and support for her teammates. Last winter, two different team members nominated Melanie for her “grit in the face of challenges.” Martha Kerrick nominated Melanie for her ability to step up into a new role with “grace and integrity.” Martha says, “the culture of the food & beverage department was transformed as Mel empowered the staff to own their areas, lead their teams and she valued insight offered by her team. While leading through a challenging time, Mel was never without a smile...She is a great example of what Epic Service is about...The entirety of our food & beverage outlets worked better because of her leadership.” Melanie’s impact on Jack Frost Big Boulder started in retail and expanded to food & beverage, and beyond to our guests. Melanie: I don't have a favorite snack, love it all!
