BE CAREFUL OF COVID-19 PHISHING EMAILS

Cybercriminals are now using the COVID-19 outbreak to conduct phishing scams. These threat actors are attempting to play on the emotions of their victims by scaring them into clicking a link, which attempts to steal their personal information or money and possibly deliver malware. The emails are made to look as if they are coming from the World Health Organization, Center for Disease Control, etc. Keep an eye out for emails like this at work and on personal accounts.

The attack is most often appearing as a “safety guide” that users can download, but is in fact malicious. There have also been emails with a link to a list of where cases of the disease have been discovered. The images below show two examples of COVD-19 phishing emails with dangerous links.

What’s next? Probably a number of phishing attacks regarding the summer Olympics, according to Know Be4.

As a reminder, if you receive a suspicious email, please send the email as an attachment to the IT Support Center.
