INFOSEC UPDATE: STIMULUS SCAMS


Unfortunately, threat actors continue to exploit a terrible situation. We are now seeing phishing attacks related to economic stimulus payments and other governmental support. These could come to your work and/or personal email account.

“Scammers are leveraging the COVID-19 pandemic to steal your money, your personal information, or both,” the FBI says. “Protect yourself and do your research before clicking on links purporting to provide information on the virus; donating to a charity online or through social media; contributing to a crowdfunding campaign; purchasing products online; or giving up your personal information in order to receive money or other benefits.”

Here are some additional tips for working from home safely:

  • Keep your home internet secure by setting a unique name and password for the network.
  • Lock your computer when you are away from it.
  • Don’t share your login credentials with anyone, even your family.
