You have more than likely heard about the breach of customer data that Equifax experienced in 2017. Over 100 million customers’ sensitive data was stolen. The settlement from this breach was accounted and can give those affected either free credit monitoring or $125.
Because cyber criminals are not apt to miss an opportunity to exploit people, almost immediately after this news broke, they began taking advantage. They are sending out mass “Equifax Settlement” phishing emails. The links in the emails will take you to sites that look like the Equifax website, but they are spoofed. These pages will attempt to collect your personal, sensitive information. Talk about kicking someone while they are down!
Exercise caution if you receive an email that appears to be from Equifax.
