ANNOUNCING A NEW U.S. AND CANADIAN MINIMUM WAGE

A message from CEO Rob Katz on Monday, March 5

Today we are announcing a significant increase in the Vail Resorts minimum wage for our employees in North America. This represents another step in investing in our employees; a path which has seen us increase our base wages by as much as 45 percent in the U.S. in the last three years. This announcement will impact thousands of employees across our resorts and lines of business.

Effective beginning of the 2018-2019 winter season, the Vail Resorts hourly minimum wage will increase:

  • From USD$11.00 to USD$12.25 in Colorado, California and Utah
  • From USD$10.50 to USD$12.00 in Vermont
  • From USD$10.45 to USD$11.25 in Minnesota
  • From USD$10.45 to USD$10.75 in Michigan and Wisconsin
  • From USD$8.95 to USD$9.25 (+$1.50 housing benefit) in GTLC

Effective summer season 2018, the Vail Resorts hourly minimum wage will increase:

  • From CAD$11.35 to CAD$13.00 in Whistler Blackcomb

The Vail Resorts minimum wage for each location is being set based on the local dynamics in each market. In addition to these minimum wage increases, next year we will be undertaking a significant number of additional wage adjustments to address our most pressing opportunities, including adjustments for certain employees making just above these new wage minimums. We are currently conducting a comprehensive analysis of all these opportunities and, once completed, will share these changes with employees in impacted groups ahead of the 2018-2019 season.

Across the business, I am constantly impressed by the hard work and passion of our employees. Our leaders are inspired to seek new ways to create the Experience of a Lifetime for our employees so you in turn can create the Experience of a Lifetime for our guests. We are continuously reviewing how we further invest in you, including competitive compensation, housing, benefits and wellness programs, ongoing leadership development and career growth opportunities throughout Vail Resorts. We anticipate additional announcements on all these fronts as we head into next season. Importantly, the benefit we received from the reduction in the U.S. corporate tax rates resulting from the recent passage of the U.S. Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has allowed us to invest more than ever in our employees.

I want to personally thank each and every one of you for your exceptional commitment and dedication to Serve Others across our world-class resorts. If you have additional questions, please review the FAQ or reach out to your Human Resources Team.
